Sheep Surprise!

Posted at 05:12 PM on May 22, 2009

As most people know by now, we sold off all of the Shetland and Coopworth sheep. I was really sad to see them go, they were such nice sheep, and I have spent the past several years breeding up to have a quality flock. So much for that. Although on the bright side, we now have much more room for the goats, and the two remaining Merinos.

Speaking of Merinos....I am not sure if I wrote about this before, but I lost my beautiful white ewe, Creamsicle. About a month ago, she laid down, and refused to get up. We tried everything from heavy worming, to probiotics, and then lifting her up to go to the bathroom and to eat and drink.  None of it ended up working, and after about a week of it she finally gave up.

I was pretty upset about it, especially since I had already sold off all my other sheep and was only left with two Merinos.

But I had a lovely surprise this afternoon, my other Merino ewe Muffin had a large white ram lamb. I had just about given up hope that she was going to lamb at all! Surprises are a truly wonderful thing!
